How do I pay for telehealth?

The cost of your telehealth appointment depends on your insurance status and insurance coverage.

How much do telehealth services cost?

How much you pay for telehealth depends on your health care provider and health insurance. Many insurances treat telehealth visits like in-person ones. Before you have a telehealth visit, call your health insurance or provider to find out how much it might cost.

What if I have private health insurance?

Many insurance companies pay for telehealth visits. Call your health insurance to see if they do and what you will have to pay. Even if telehealth costs a little more, think about the money you will save on traveling, missing work, or paying for a babysitter. When you schedule a telehealth visit, follow what your health insurance says to make sure they will pay for it.

What if I am enrolled in Medicare?

Medicare pays for many telehealth services. Often, you will pay the same as if you saw the provider in person. Talk to your health care provider to see if Medicare will cover your telehealth visit.

What if I am enrolled in Medicaid?

Medicaid’s coverage for telehealth visits can be different depending on where you live. Talk to your health care provider to see if Medicaid will pay for your telehealth visit.

What if I don’t have health insurance?

If you don't have health insurance, these are some options you can consider:

  • Many people can get a health plan that covers visits with a health care provider and medicines.
  • Health centers help everyone even if you can't pay a lot. Health centers provide care to people with no health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or private health insurance. Look for a health center close to you.
